Owner dependency, measured

You built a business.
Or a job that owns you.

Most owners can't tell which until the day they try to step away and everything cracks. Find out how dependent the business really is on you, then walk the way out.

Alex del Valle, founder of Ownfri, speaking to a room

Why Ownfri exists

I was the business. That was the problem.

I'm Alex del Valle. For five years I ran Cinna Box, a café in Northglenn that held a 4.9-star rating across more than 300 reviews. From the outside, it worked.

From the inside, it only worked when I did. When my lead baker quit, I ran the place alone for 43 consecutive days. Somewhere in that stretch, I fainted mid-sentence while talking to a customer. The man who caught me happened to be an EMT. The business was fine that day. I wasn't.

I closed Cinna Box in 2020, and I've spent the years since helping owners and teams build systems that don't collapse when one person does. Ownfri is the version of that work I wish someone had handed me in year one: find where the business leans on you, and teach it to stand.

What it's like to work with Alex

Before Ownfri had a name, this was already the work: building systems, handing them over, and making himself unnecessary.

"I would never have gone near AI if it wasn't for you!"
Dawn L. · nonprofit club leader, Denver
"This is my favorite AI summary I've seen! I will look into incorporating it into my daily life. Thank you!"
Bonnie E. · board secretary

The two-week handoff

The goal isn't to be the wizard. It's to make wizards.

Alex built an AI scheduling assistant for a 35+ member organization: roster, surveys, availability conflicts, the works. Then he taught the team to run it.

Within two weeks, one member had upgraded the setup herself, fixed its bugs, and produced the next schedule without him. That's the whole Ownfri thesis in one story.
